The Road Warrior Smoothie

Entrepreneur and world devotional musician GuruGanesha Khalsa manages a demanding schedule with the ease and grace of a man half his 67 years. Founder of Spirit Voyage Records and CEO of the international Sandler Training Institute based in Virginia, he’s considered one of the most sought-after global sales trainers in the high-tech/software industry.

And when he’s not in the boardroom or leading one of his high-powered seminars, he can most often be found out on the road, performing as the guitarist, vocalist and songwriter for the GuruGanesha Band.

What keeps him going? This longtime vegetarian and Kundalini yoga practitioner starts every day with a powerhouse organic comestible he calls the Road Warrior Smoothie. He concocted the recipe with devotional singer Paloma Devi during a road tour several years ago and says it has kept him and his band healthy, happy and full of energy over the long miles.

The Road Warrior Smoothie can energize your own journey through the day as well. Here’s how to make one:

12-16 ounces of almond milk

1 large handful of fresh, organic blueberries or strawberries

1 heaping teaspoon of raw, organic almond butter

1 heaping teaspoon of organic, fresh, refrigerated bee pollen

½ teaspoon raw cacao

1 heaping teaspoon of carob

1 teaspoon of maca

1 ½ scoops of organic protein power

½ teaspoon of raw maple syrup or agave nectar

“You blend it all up and it becomes this wonderful, thick smoothie that’s a dark-brown color from the carob and cacao,” says GuruGanesha, who generally knocks one of these back after his morning yoga, meditation and music practice.

“It keeps me going for three hours before I eat any solid food,” he adds. “It ends up being about 16 ounces, and it’s very energizing. But I use a straw to drink it, because of my beard. Otherwise it can be a pretty messy situation.”
