Hacienda de Guru Ram Das, named by Yogi Bhajan (aka the Siri Singh Sahib) as the Mother Ashram of Sikhism in the Western hemisphere, promotes spiritual growth and individual, community, and planetary healing. We practice the 3HO lifestyle (Healthy, Happy, Holy Organization) as a spiritual community, according to the teachings of Yogi Bhajan. During his lifetime, Yogi Bhajan traveled across the world sharing the teachings of the Sikh Gurus, and he was the first to publicly share the ancient technology of Kundalini Yoga in the West.
Although Yogi Bhajan had his home base in Los Angeles for many years, we all knew of his deep longing and love for Española. He would remind us that even though God was everywhere, his real home was here. A poem written by the Siri Singh Sahib describes with exquisite clarity how much Española meant to him.
Yogi Bhajan also founded the site of the first Khalsa Women's Training Camp (KWTC) here in Española. This was part of an important mission of his—to uplift and empower the women of the world. “True change on earth begins with spiritual women. Where woman is treated with dignity and respect, in that place peace will prevail.”
This mission and commitment to raising the consciousness of women to live in dignity, divinity, and grace, continued with his wife of 52 years, Bibiji Inderjit Kaur Khalsa, PhD, the Bhai Sahiba or Chief Religious Minister of Sikh Dharma International. Bibiji traveled and lectured internationally and now resides in Los Angeles.
