A “True” Story
I met Sangeet about 5 years ago, a couple yrs before covid when the Sangat in Espanola NM was bustling with community members and Kundalini Yoga students from around the world …
She was recovering from her 1st hip surgery and as many of us know, there were several more various types to follow. I was living near the Mother Ashram in an attached wing / casita of Guru Nam’s high-end home, furnished with & enjoying Sat Sundri’s gorgeous furniture! I was relaxed. My mind and heart were clear. I had perfect view of the Jemez Mountains and Ram Das Puri through 94” of living room windows!
One day as Seva I stayed with Sangeet at her home for ½ day while her husband Krishna Singh went to Santa Fe to grocery shop. I did not let her rest however, we talked about many things and everything, and I learned that she had been an opera singer. So I told her that I would love to hear something!
About a month later @ the Ashram after Sunday Gurdwara she came up to me and handed me a CD of DHAN DHAN RAM DAS GURU The Blessing sung by her. She looked into my eyes and firmly said: EXPECT A MIRACLE! Well I did expect a MIRACLE and needed one! …My life had just been re-directed by a cluster of difficult & unfortunate events. In 49 yrs of driving in major metropolitan cities I had never been in an automobile accident, until two months after my failed Back Surgery when a local renegade driver ran a solid red light. Well, my Rav-4 was totaled.
So I listened to Sangeet sing “The Blessing” of Guru Ram Das every morning for almost a month while witnessing the mountainous expanse of Northern New Mexico. I didn’t know Gurmukhi or understand one word on the CD but Sangeet’s devotional voice put me in direct communion with Guru Ram Das.
And - I did not specifically ask for a NEW car but God & the universe heard my heart and needs. I’m not afraid to say that I love speculation and have always been Blessed and pretty Lucky, except when it comes to surgeons.
I regularly visited a nearby casino in Pojoaque for their monthly Car Drawings: I’m from Detroit, I had sold cars in Santa Fe and now I really needed an upgrade. On this particular evening I had 53 entries for the drawing; 40 were free (10 ea wk) … other hopefuls had thousands in the computer! I won’t go into the obvious synchronicities occurring that evening that prompted me to stay for the last drawing: I was in pain and the drawing wasn’t until 10:30 pm. OMG they called my name! Ultimately I was the last person of ten participants to Spin the Wheel twice for the highest score. I kind of felt I might win because on the Shuttle ride over to the main sister casino for the drawing one of my 1960’s favorite songs by The Four Seasons “Oh What A Night” was playing.
I was determined to win this time and I know in my heart that I had help from the Guru of Miracles! On both spins I closed my eyes and spoke aloud “Waheguru” and spun the Wheel. Well, we won the car. Now back to Sangeet …
Sangeet and I spoke for an hour the week before her passing. When I thanked her again and reminded her of her influence in my Miracle five years earlier she boldly said “I don’t claim and I don’t blame.” She spoke in detail about what health trials she was experiencing but never once did she succumb to emotion or self-pity; she just delivered the facts.
I have told this story a couple dozen times to people I’ve encountered and will continue to. The message has always been – Believe in the Power of Prayer! It doesn’t matter what words or language one speaks, it’s a vibration from the Heart that communicates with ALL and into eternity. And the bottom line in my story is that Guru Ram Das is truly the Guru of Miracles!
You Sangeet and your ever present Grace was a beacon for us all and you are missed. And Krishna … you’re a saint in your own right! What a beautiful Wedding Photo … she loved you so!
